Coulter Z1
The Z1 uses
the electrical sensing zone technique for counting cells or particles
in the 1-120 micron size range. This
technique provides accuracy, speed, versatility, and excellent
precision; it is the accepted reference method for cell counting.
Standard apertures are available in five sizes. In addition, for very
small sample volumes, ampoule insertable apertures may be used. Z1
instruments incorporate a unique, new oil displacement pump which
delivers a high degree of accuracy and precision, and eliminates the
need for mercury utilized in the traditional mercury manometers. The Z1
was specifically designed for simple operation. Enter the cell size (
diameter or volume) and press START. The count is completed in
seconds. Clear messages on the LCD display lead you through all set-up
and analyses functions. Calibration requires only several keystrokes;
optimum instrument settings are automatically computed and set. The
constant current feature of the Z1 eliminates calibration drift due to
changes in electrolyte conductivity and temperature, a very common
problem with other instruments.

Each size of aperture allows measurement
of particles in the approximate diameter
range of 2% to 60% of aperture diameter
1um to 120um equivalent diameter
Accurate to within 1% of a reference
Coulter system
Better than 1% CV at metered volume of
0.5ml and 1.0ml
LCD display of menus required for setting
up the instrument, during accumulation
displays the incremental count
